It is also available on prescription from pharmacies in the UK, although some men may have been referred to a doctor.
However, men who have had erectile dysfunction may still be able to access the drug.
Dr Simon Coop, a GP specialist in sexual health, said: “Men are often prescribed Viagra to treat this condition and we hope that this survey will encourage more men to seek help for their erectile dysfunction, which is a common problem for many men in the UK.
“It may also encourage more men to get help for erectile dysfunction, although it’s important to note that it isn’t always possible to always get the treatment you need.
“While it is important for men to have an open discussion with their GP about treatment options and to talk about the reasons behind their choice of medication, it’s important to work with their doctor and to speak to a pharmacist before starting treatment.”
Last year, LloydsPharmacy UK announced it was adding Viagra tablets to its online pharmacies.
It is also offering other options for men, including those who want to buy medicines online with their GP, for example. LloydsPharmacy is one of the first online pharmacies to offer Viagra as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.
